Glen Eira Budget Submission 2023/24

Streets Alive Glen Eira (SAGE) expressed our disappointment with the proposed 2023/24 Glen Eira City Council budget in our submission. We highlighted that only one bike infrastructure project was planned, with a budget of $250,000 allocated for subpar upgrades like speed humps and sharrows.

We highlighted councils like Stonnington and Bayside, are investing significantly more in bike infrastructure. We emphasised that the minimal action being taken to reduce transport emissions was unacceptable, especially considering the council's declaration of a climate emergency.

Recognising that the transport sector accounted for 13% of emissions in the municipality, SAGE urged the council to reconsider the proposed budget. We requested a reallocation of resources towards the construction of protected and safe bike lanes, as well as other sustainable transport infrastructure.

Such investments would not only contribute to a safer and healthier community but would also align with the council's commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and addressing the climate emergency.
