Community’s grand opening of the St Kilda Road bike lanes

After several decades of tireless advocacy by Melburnians, who simply want to be able to ride their bicycles without fearing for their lives, the new Copenhagen-style separated bike lanes on St Kilda Road are finally here! These lanes provide much-needed safety for cyclists and scooter users along the busy arterial road and make the option of travelling from the southeast suburbs to the CBD far more inviting. A few segments of the path near Anzac station remain under construction but should hopefully be completed soon as the Metro Tunnel project wraps up.

To celebrate this momentous occasion, Streets Alive Glen Eira joined several bicycle and transport groups, as well as friends and family in the community for the opening of the bike lanes, on a beautiful sunny Sunday, with perfect conditions for riding.

Several forward-thinking MPs and councillors who have supported the progress thus far also attended and pledged to continue their work in improving the cycling infrastructure within Victoria. Thanks to everyone who came!
